Professor of Singapore Management University
Robert J. Kauffman is Professor of Information Systems at the School of Information Systems, Singapore Management University. He also serves as Associate Dean (Faculty), and was previously Associate Dean (Research) and Deputy Director of the Living Analytics Research (LARC) there. He also was a Distinguished Visiting Fellow at the Center for Digital Strategies at the Tuck School of Business, Dartmouth College. And he served on the faculty at business schools of New York University, the University of Rochester, the University of Minnesota, and Arizona State University, where he held the W.P. Carey Chair in Information Systems. His graduate degrees are from Cornell (M.A.) and Carnegie Mellon (M.S., Ph.D). His research interests span IT and business value, economics, marketing and consumer behavior, competitive strategy and the fintech revolution, and computational social science and data analytics. His articles have appeared in Management Science, Information Systems Research, Journal of Management Information Systems, MIS Quarterly, Organization Science, and the Review of Economics and Statistics, among others. He previously contributed special issues to Decision Support Systems on ‘Market Transformation to an IT-Enabled Services-Oriented Economy’ (2015) and to the Journal of Management Information Systems on ‘The Fintech Revolution’ (late 2017). He is currently Editor in Chief of Electronic Commerce Research and Applications.

Computational Social Science (CSS) has become a mainstream approach in the empirical study of policy analytics issues in various domains of e-commerce research. This keynote presentation for ICEC is intended to represent recent advances that have been made for the discovery of new policy-related insights in business, consumer and social settings in the e-commerce domain. The approach discussed is fusion analytics, which combines machine-based methods from Computer Science (CS) and explanatory empiricism involving advanced Econometrics and Statistics. Recent developments and shifts in the scientific study of technology-related phenomena and Social Science issues in the presence of historically-large datasets prompt new forms of research inquiry. They include blended approaches to research methodology, and more interest in the production of research results that have direct application to industry contexts. Examples and illustrations from recent research will be discussed, and some conclusions will be shared related to the manner in which effective industry-based studies can be carried out.
Professor of UMinho
Professor of Computer Science at the Department of Informatics, in the University of Minho (Braga, Portugal) and a researcher at the ALGORITMI Centre. From the same university he received a PhD in Computer Sciences in 2003 and his Habilitation in Computer Science in 2011.
He started his career developing scientific research in the field of Intelligent Systems/Artificial Intelligence (AI), namely in Knowledge Representation and Reasoning, Machine Learning and Multi-Agent Systems. His interest, in the last years, was absorbed by the different concepts of Ambient Intelligence, Ambient Assisted Living, Intelligent Environments, AI and Law, Conflict Resolution and the incorporation of AI methods and techniques in these fields. His main research aim is to make systems a little more smart, intelligent and also reliable.
He has leaded and participated in several research projects sponsored by Portuguese and European public and private Institutions and has supervised several PhD and MSc students. He is the co-author of over 180 book chapters, journal papers, conference and workshop papers and books.
He has been chair of the Organising or Scientific Committee of ISAmI (International Symposium on Ambient Intelligence), ESM 2011 – European Simulation and Modelling Conference, SOCO 2011 (International Conference on Soft Computing Models in Industrial and Environmental Applications) and PROVE 2007 (IFIP Working Conference on Virtual Enterprises) and member of organising committee of several others events (e.g., Pervasive Health 2011, Intelligent Environments 2011, ECAI 2010, EPIA 2007).

The trend of mHealth, or mobile health, emerge recently as a result of technological evolution and miniaturization and the users’ interest in monitoring and improving health and well being. Other that improving of informing about personal health, it also allows for the development of better assistive environments. Nonetheless, existing approaches are generally based on physiological sensors, which are intrusive and cannot be realistically used. This is especially true in environments in which the transparency, pervasiveness and sensitivity are of importance, such as in Ambient Intelligence and Electronic Commerce.
We put forward a new approach to the problem in which user behavioral cues are used as an input to assess the individual’s inner state. This innovative approach has been validated by research in the last years and has characteristics that may enable the development of true unobtrusive, pervasive and sensitive ambient intelligent systems. Specifically, this approach has been proven to be useful in quantifying aspects such as stress, fatigue or attention.

Vegard Kolbjørnsrud (PhD) is an Assistant Professor in Strategy at BI Norwegian Business School and a Senior Research Fellow with Accenture. Vegard is researching, teaching, and consulting on strategy, new organizational forms, digitalization, and business models. His areas of expertise also include governance and organization design, communities and crowdsourcing, open innovation, digital strategy as well as the impact of AI on management. Jae Kyu Lee, Ph.D., is the Chair Professor at School of Business, Yonsei University and Professor Emeritus of KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology). He is also a Fellow Professor at Xi’an Jiaotong University and Distinguished Visiting Professor of Heinz School at Carnegie Mellon University. He is the Director of Bright Internet Research Center at Yonsei University and KAIST. He was the HHI Chair Professor in the College of Business at KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology). He served for the President (2015-5) and Fellow of Association for Information Systems, the global organization of 4,000 Information System researchers. He was the founding editor-in-chief of the journal, Electronic Commerce Research and Applications (Elsevier, SSCI and SCIE Accredited), and was the founding chair of the International Conference on Electronic Commerce. He was the president of academic societies such as Korea Society of Management Information Systems and Korea Society of Intelligent Information Systems. The Bright Internet pursues three goals of preventive security, freedom of anonymous expression, and privacy protection. To fulfill these conflicting goals, five design principles are specified: Origin Responsibility, Deliverer Responsibility, Identifiable Anonymity, Global Collaborative Search, and Privacy Protection. The technologies, policies, and global collaboration are holistically designed to realize these principles, but the full-fledged development and deployment will take a long time. So we propose the focused market driven business models. We illustrate with two business models – Bright e-Mail and Bright Cloud Extended Network with example cases. These platforms can become a secure Bright Internet platform for next generation e-commerce.
Bright e-Mail: To prevent the generation of malicious e-mails, the Bright e-Mail services can be adopted as a business model in the following way. First of all, the victims who received malicious spam mails can report the cyberattacks to the Bright Internet Center. The Bright Internet Center will build a database of such reports and the lawyers will file collective compensation lawsuits against the malicious origins. The Bright Internet Center will also publicize who are globally bad neighbors and this will motivate the origin servers to screen out the generation of malicious mails from their own systems. The collected compensation can be paid back to reporting victims as incentive.
Bright Cloud Extended Network: The Bright Cloud means the Bright Internet based Cloud Services that can prevent the cybercrimes hosted by cloud services platforms. The major benefit to clients is that they can gain trust from the internal tenants and external business partners. To escalate the network effect, multiple Bright Clouds can be interconnected via virtual private network expanding to the Bright Cloud Extended Network. The tenets in the Bright Cloud Extended Network can trust each other, and thus this platform can upgrade their opportunity of online business partnership with higher trust.

Kyung-shik Shin is a Professor of Ewha School of Business, a Head of Department of Big Data Analytics, a Head professor of Big Data MBA, and a Director of Ewha Center for Knowledge & Information Systems. He held a position as a President of Korea Intelligent Information System Society, and is currently an Honorary President, a Chief Editor of The Journal of Intelligence and Information Systems, and an Executive Vice-president at Korean Academic Society of Business Administration.
His research interests cover artificial intelligence applications in business domain including financial big data analytics, data mining and machine learning. His researches have appeared on Journals such as Journal of Management Information Systems, Decision Support Systems, Information Science, and Expert Systems with Applications, etc. He also had successfully worked on more than 70 funded industrial projects of intelligent information systems mainly for financial institutions such as KB Kookmin Bank, Shinhan Bank, Woori Bank, and Nonghyup Bank, etc. The developed systems using big data and machine learning include intelligent credit rating systems, operational risk management Systems, fraud detection systems, anti-money laundering systems, and marketing support systems, etc.
He graduated Yonsei University with Bachelor’s Degree of Business Administration, MBA from George Washington University, and Ph.D. from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology. He was invited as a Visiting professor at Harvard University, National University of Singapore, and University of Hong Kong. He has been awarded more than 10 times as the Best Paper for his business application study on Intelligent Technology, including Decision Sciences Institute.

It is indisputable that not only land and labor, but also ‘Knowledge’ as working know-how is considered as the key factors of production in modern economy. It is fascinating that acquisition and application of business knowledge, with the help of intelligent technologies such as big data, machine learning and artificial intelligence, is now allowing cost reduction and increasing productivity. In other words, we expect to maximize productivity by using Machine and Artificial Intelligence as primary factors of production.
However, despite the new innovative opportunity given by artificial intelligence, it is not easy for business entity to accept it, use it, and lead it to business performance. We have learned that ‘superior technologies’ do not guarantee ‘business successes’ from our old experiences when introducing Information Systems. To make technology lead to success, we need not only superiority of technology but also successful strategy of adopting and establishing it. We have to let our knowledge workers be ready for the change who believe that Information System is restricted only to transactional processing and calculations and not to knowledge processing. Moreover, we need to face ‘change monster’ provoked by changed working environment. In this lecture, we will look through the key elements for business entity to successfully introduce and use artificial intelligence, and to lead its business performance.
He graduated with a B.S. (1990), M.S. (1992), and Ph.D. (1995) in Management Science from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). Jin Hyung Kim
He received BS in Seoul National University, MS and PhD in computer science at UCLA. He worked at KIST, Hughes Research Laboratories before joining the faculty of KAIST Computer Science Department in 1985. He served as the department head, director of Center for Artificial Intelligence Research, and the founding head of Software Graduate School. His research interest spans various subfield of Artificial Intelligence such as probabilistic reasoning, neural networks, pattern recognition, and recently on computing education.
On leave from KAIST, he worked at IBM Watson Research Center, Samsung as a visiting scholar, and at Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information as the president. After retirement from KAIST in 2013, he founded and headed Software Policy Research Institute which develops SW policy for Korean government. He served in several professional societies, numerous conferences and several editorial boards; Steering committee chair for Pacific Rim Artificial Intelligence Conference; key positions in the Pattern Recognition and Document Recognition field.
He is a fellow of IAPR, KAST, NAEK. He served as the president of Korea Information Science Society, Korea Cognitive Science Society, and Korea Medical Information Society. He received the Order of Industrial Service Merit in 2015, the Order of Service Merit in 2001 from Korean government, and Distinguished ICT Individual from Asian-Oceanian Computing Industry Organization in 2016.

Soo-Young Lee is a professor of Electrical Engineering at Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology. In 1997, he established the Brain Science Research Centre at KAIST, and led Korean Brain Neuroinformatics Research Program from 1998 to 2008 with dual goals, i.e., understanding brain information processing mechanism and developing intelligent machine based on the algorithm. He is now also Director of KAIST Institute for Artificial Intelligence, and leading Emotional Conversational Agent Project, a Korean National Flagship AI Project. He is President of Asia-Pacific Neural Network Society in 2017, and had received Presidential Award from INNS and Outstanding Achievement Award from APNNA. His research interests have resided in the artificial cognitive systems with human-like intelligent behavior based on the biological brain information processing. He has worked on speech and image recognition, natural language processing, situation awareness, internal-state recognition, and human-like dialog systems. Especially, among many internal states, he is interested in emotion, sympathy, trust, and personality. Both computational models and cognitive neuroscience experiments are conducted. His group marked Top-1 for the emotion recognition challenge from facial images (EmotiW; Emotion Recognition in the Wild) in 2015.
Title: Artificial Intelligent Systems with Human Internal State Understanding: I Know Who You Are and What You Think

For the successful interaction between human and machine agents, the agents need understand both explicitly-presented human intention and unpresented human mind. Although the current artificial intelligent (AI) systems mainly rely on the former with keystrokes, speech, and gestures, the latter will play an important role for the new and up-coming AIs. In this talk we will first introduce Deep Learning, the currently-successful AI on speech and image recognition based on computational models of human auditory and visual pathways. We will also discuss natural language processing as the next higher cognitive function. Then, we will move to higher cognitive functions such as situation understanding and decision making, and present our continuing efforts to understand unpresented human mind, which may reside at the internal states of neural networks in human brain. Special emphasis was given to emotion, human memory, trustworthiness, and sympathy to others during interactions. Human memory changes much slowly in time, and is different from person to person and may be used to identify a person. On the other hands the sympathy and trustworthiness to others has much shorter time constants, and may be identified with a few user interactions. Therefore, AIs will be able to interact with human appropriately with the information on “who you are” and “what you think”. The brain internal states are currently estimated from brain-related signals such as fMRI (functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging), EEG (Electroencephalography), and eye movements, which eventually will be utilized to provide near-ground-truth labels for simple audio-visual signals.

Dr. Chang is Senior Vice President and Head of Solution R&D Center. He is responsible for developing solution products for the new growth of SK Telecom. His current focus area includes IoT, Big Data, O2O, Video Surveillance, and Artificial Intelligence. He also did the investment to tech startups at SK Holdings.
Before joining SK Telecom in August 2005, he had worked for Samsung Electronics as a senior engineer since March 1999. He developed mobile communications systems such as CDMA2000 and WiMAX.
He received his B.S. (’92), M.S. (’94), and Ph.D. (’99) degree in Computer Engineering from Seoul National University. He has over 18 years of work experience in the ICT industry, and has more than 70 patents.
